I'm One Month Old Today!!!

I am one month old today! ;o) My daddy bought me the outfit I'm wearing for my month birthday (it's a preemie size outfit believe it or not!) along with a little dress that says Baby Girl and some headbands and bows (that my mommy didn't like too much lol). Mommy decided that she would teach dad how to give me a bath so he can do it all by himself, and he did...I love baths, they really relax me and I usually tend to sleep really well after I get one! Grandma and Grandpa Hernandez came by to see me along with my Great Aunt Teresa. They all think that I have my mom's eyes and my daddy's lips and chin. My Grandma gave me the pink blanket in the picture. Auntie Kristie sent me an e-mail wishing me a Happy Monthday and asking for pictures, so here they are:

I Am One Month Old Today just incase you didn't know already!

Such big eyes! I like my Avent pacifier better than the big green ugly ones!

Totally Sweet!

I am so alert and such a flirt! Don't tell daddy ;o)

This is one of the many outfits that Auntie Stefany
has gotten for me. This one says Little Lady!
Auntie Kristie came to visit me yesterday at my
Grandparents house. She went to visit me in the
NICU and this was her first time seeing me outside
of the hospital and her first time ever holding me!
She brought me a gift (she spoils me!) It is a white
onesie with little green dots and a pink apple which
says Totally Sweet, and that I am! Auntie Kristie is
the person in charge of my blog lol she showed mommy
how to do it yesterday but mommy promised her
she's not out of a job!
I love sleeping on my Boppy...Auntie Kristie
took this picture of me during her visit!

First Pediatrician Visit!!

Khloe had her first pediatrician appointment yesterday! David took the day off so he could be with us all day :) We got there, received all of the paperwork to fill out and we got called right away! She now weighs 5 lbs 15 oz so she's really close to 6 lbs. now! Upon measuring her, they said 18.5 inches and I know she's not shrinking :)...when born they said she was 19 inches! So we finally get seen by a pediatrician, not her actual doctor since the NICU doctor wanted her to be seen in a week and her doctor didn't have anything available! According to him, everything is perfect and she is healthy! It was great to hear...We go back for her vaccines on March 5th (it will probably be harder on me than her since I hate needles!) On our way out, we saw the doctor that delivered her! (Her pediatrician and my OB are in the same building) She said that her pacifier looked bigger than her :) how cute! We then went to the hospital to return the breast pump we had rented (since someone we know was kind enough to give us their electrical Medela pump) :) thanks!!! After the hospital we went to the bank and then to Babies R Us! We bought some really great things that were on SALE ranging from $0.50 to $2.00! Luckily we were able to find a few preemie outfits at those prices :) Here is a picture of Khloe when we were in the car on the way to the pediatrician...Notice the hoodie and how big it is on her! Believe it or not, that's a newborn size outfit!

Sleeping Beauty

My Birth Story!

On December 28th, I started feeling mild menstrual like cramps throughout the afternoon, they weren’t going away and they were constant so I had a feeling and even told my friend Kristie that she would be here either that day or the following. I went to bed that night and woke up on the 29th and had the same type of cramping throughout the day. The cramps started getting stronger in the late afternoon and at night, I told my parents and my husband that Khloe was coming. Thankfully, my hospital bag and David’s was already prepared. I tried to get some sleep throughout the contractions but then they started to get stronger! At around 4am, my parents, David and I went down stairs and I ate a watermelon jello J I stuck around as long as I could and then I looked at David and told him it was time to go! We got to the hospital at around 5am, went up to the Maternity floor and David told them that I was in labor. We told them I had pre-registered, they asked for my insurance card and ID, put a bracelet on me and a nurse came to get me and told David to wait.

She took me to a room, asked for a pee sample and then monitored the baby and my contractions. Khloe’s heart rate kept dropping with every contraction so she put me on oxygen and checked to see how dilated I was…4cm and 80% effaced, great for a first timer! I was definitely in labor. They took me to my labor room and then David and my mom came to see me. I got the IV which wasn’t bad (I had heard that they really hurt!)

Then my doctor came in to check me and I was dilated at 5cm and she broke my water. She asked me if I wanted an epidural because it looked as though I was suffering and I told her I was really going to try to do this naturally…crazy me! She then put me on pitocin and left…

My contractions came a lot stronger and faster after the pitocin but thankfully David was a great coach and he kept reminding me to breath and I kept rubbing on his stomach for whatever reason, during every contraction…I was still on the oxygen for Khloe but I felt as though I couldn’t breath with it! I made it to 8cm and looked at my nurse and said, “I want an epidural”. The anesthesiologist came in almost instantly and started prepping. The whole process took about 30 minutes…I had been so scared of getting an epidural but it really wasn’t bad! I should have gotten it at 5cm when my doctor asked if I wanted one. The anesthesiologist wasn’t very nice and didn’t like the fact that when I would tell my mom that I was getting a contraction, we would ask her to stop. She replied with “I have been doing this for a long time and I know what I’m doing” and my mom said, “This is her first time so wait!”

After the epidural, the nurse inserted a catheter then checked me again and I was already at 9cm, then at 9 ¾ and the nurse told me that I needed to practice pushing, we practiced once and then my doctor walked in and asked me if I was ready to have a baby!!!!! I couldn’t feel the contractions but I could feel pressure so I knew when I had to push. My mom was in back of me, David was holding my right leg, the nurse was helping with my left leg as I held both of my legs to assist in the pushing…Khloe was out after just 3 contractions at 11:35am after a 4.5 hour labor!!

Poor baby had the umbilical chord wrapped around her twice L When I heard her cry, I started to cry as well…My mom and David hugged each other while my sister was taking pictures of Khloe J She was so beautiful…Then the doctor started pressing on my stomach to get the placenta to come out and I asked her if she wanted me to push, at first she said she could do it on her own then she said “Ok, try to push”. I pushed once and the placenta was out! Khloe weighed 4.5lbs and measured 19 inches. She was so tiny because the umbilical chord was half the thickness it was supposed to be so she wasn’t getting all the nutrients she needed. Since the placenta was tiny, she couldn’t grow as much L Then they told me that her blood sugar is low so they needed to take her to the NICU. David went with them and then Dr. Singh came in to tell me that he takes care of babies “that don’t come out normal”, I got really scared…Khloe’s sugar level was 49 when she was born (it needed to be 50 or higher) and then they poked her again when she got to the NICU, it had dropped to 19…I got transferred to my post partum room about an hour after she was born and got a great nurse by the name of Edna J They told us that while Khloe is in the NICU, we can go visit her at anytime…We spent New Years Eve in the NICU with Khloe but it was the best New Years we’ve ever had…Our family was finally complete J After giving birth, I wasn’t in any pain, just felt a little soreness where I got the epidural. I didn’t even need any medication! Since Khloe got admitted to the NICU, the hospital approved for me to stay there a day longer so we could be closer to the baby J Thankfully after a lot of prayers from many of our family and friends, Khloe came home on January 13th at 7pm after having been in the NICU for 14 days!

So tired!

My first nap in my boppy bouncer!!!

Pictures!!

Our Khloe has come home!!!

After 14 days in the NICU, Khloe was finally discharged and came home around 7pm last night! It took a little over an hour to get out of the hospital and at that point, I was running out of patience! As soon as they told me she was coming home, I felt so relieved and started to cry! THANK YOU to everyone for your prayers, good vibes, best wishes, etc...My original due date was January 12th so I would have been discharged from the hospital yesterday on the 13th! She just needed the 2 additional weeks she would have been in my belly to grow...In Mexico, Tuesday the 13th is considered good or bad luck just as Friday the 13th is here. It was definitely good luck for us!!! Khloe is a rat in the Chinese Zodiac and it represents "lucky", it really fits her!! It was great seeing her in her crib for the first time and having her wear her clothes :) Doctor's orders she is to eat around 3oz every 2-4 hours on demand...She must have been very comfortable last night because for every feeding, she only wanted to take 2oz. I am calling her Pediatrician this morning to make her appointment (she needs to see him within a week), he is expecting to see her since the doctor in the NICU has been keeping him updated with her progress. She came home with just regular orders, "just take care of her, you guys are good parents and here is her vitamin prescription!". We were stocked!!! I am typing this as both of my parents are in total awe and she is wide awake after having eaten 3oz...Well, have to get ready for the next feeding lol, do laundry and start to prepare her FIRST bath. So many FIRSTS to look forward to and I can finally enjoy being a mom :)
